The D Train

I entered the empty subway cart and immediately realized why it was empty. The doors closed behind me before I had the chance to dash out.

In the corner lay a man, blanketed, across the bench. He did not acknowledge me.

Instead, he stared up at his hands which he held above him. He was murmuring to himself as he put on a finger puppet play.

I got off at the next stop but not before catching the gist of his performance—he was pantomiming a happy mother and son relationship.
